How Ghee Converter Works?

The Ghee Converter works by dividing grams of ghee by 4.45 g per US teaspoon. Ghee is almost pure butterfat, so ghee weighs 6% less per spoon than butter.

  1. Melt or soften

Ghee is semi-solid at room temperature. Warm the jar for an even spoon fill.

  2. Enter grams

Type the weight, such as 15 g for a tadka (tempering).

  3. Level the spoon

Level soft ghee with a knife, or fill melted ghee to the rim.

Ghee Converter Formula

The Ghee Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of ghee ÷ 4.45.

tsp = g ÷ 4.45 | 1 tbsp = 13.35 g | 1 US cup ≈ 214 g

  • 15 g of ghee ÷ 13.35 = 1.12 tbsp.
  • 5 g of ghee ÷ 4.45 = 1.12 tsp.
  • Butter-to-ghee swap: 100 g butter ≈ 80 g ghee (about 6 tbsp).

What is Ghee Converter?

The Ghee Converter is a calculator that converts grams of ghee into teaspoons and tablespoons. Ghee is clarified butter cooked until the milk solids brown, then strained, leaving about 99% fat.

Removing water and milk solids raises the smoke point to about 250 °C (482 °F), against 175 °C (350 °F) for butter. Indian cooking uses ghee for tempering spices, and the high smoke point suits searing. Ghee holds about 25% more fat per gram than butter.

What are the uses of Ghee Converter?

There are 4 main uses of the Ghee Converter: tadka and tempering, Indian sweets, searing and roasting, and butter swaps.

  1. Tadka

Tempering spices for dal uses 10 g of ghee, about 2 ¼ tsp.

  2. Indian sweets

Halwa and laddoo recipes list ghee in grams. 30 g equals 2 ¼ tbsp.

  3. Searing

Searing scallops takes 15 g of ghee, about 1 tbsp.

  4. Butter swaps

Swapping butter for ghee uses 80% of the butter weight.
