How Ground Coffee Converter Works?

The Ground Coffee Converter works by dividing grams of ground coffee by 1.8 g per level US teaspoon of medium-ground coffee. Finer espresso grinds pack heavier, and coarse grinds weigh less.

  1. Set the ratio

    Pick a brew ratio. The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) golden ratio is 55 g of coffee per litre of water.

  2. Enter grams

    Type the coffee dose, such as 18 g for a pour-over.

  3. Scoop and level

    Level each spoon. A standard 2-tbsp coffee scoop holds about 10.8 g.

Ground Coffee Converter Formula

The Ground Coffee Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of ground coffee ÷ 1.8.

tsp = g ÷ 1.8 | 1 tbsp = 5.4 g | SCA ratio: 55 g per 1 L (1:18)

  • 18 g of ground coffee ÷ 5.4 = 3.33 tbsp for a 300 mL pour-over.
  • 55 g of ground coffee ÷ 5.4 = 10.19 tbsp for 1 L of drip coffee.
  • 1 tbsp of ground coffee = 5.4 g.

What is Ground Coffee Converter?

The Ground Coffee Converter is a calculator that converts grams of ground coffee into teaspoons, tablespoons and coffee scoops. Brew guides list coffee in grams, while many home brewers own only spoons and scoops.

Ground coffee density changes with roast and grind. Dark roasts are less dense than light roasts, and fine espresso grinds pack tighter than coarse French-press grinds. The 1.8 g value fits a medium grind for drip and pour-over.

What are the uses of Ground Coffee Converter?

There are 4 main uses of the Ground Coffee Converter: drip coffee makers, pour-over and French press, cold brew, and baking with coffee.
