How Instant Yeast Converter Works?

The Instant Yeast Converter works by dividing grams of instant yeast by 3.15 g per level US teaspoon. Instant yeast has finer granules than active dry yeast and mixes straight into flour.

  1. Skip proofing

    Add instant yeast directly to the dry ingredients. No warm-water step is needed.

  2. Enter grams

    Type the weight, such as 5 g for an overnight loaf.

  3. Keep salt apart

    Mix the yeast into the flour first, then add salt. Direct contact with salt slows the yeast.

Instant Yeast Converter Formula

The Instant Yeast Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of instant yeast ÷ 3.15.

tsp = g ÷ 3.15 | 1 tbsp = 9.45 g | instant ≈ active dry × 0.75 by weight

  • 5 g of instant yeast ÷ 3.15 = 1.59 tsp, about 1 ½ tsp.
  • 7 g of instant yeast ÷ 3.15 = 2.22 tsp, about 2 ¼ tsp.
  • Replacing 8 g of active dry yeast takes 8 × 0.75 = 6 g of instant yeast (1.9 tsp).

What is Instant Yeast Converter?

The Instant Yeast Converter is a calculator that converts grams of instant (rapid-rise, bread-machine) yeast into teaspoons. Instant yeast is dried in fine particles with a higher share of live cells than active dry yeast.

Instant yeast works about 25% faster than active dry yeast. Bakers use 25% less instant yeast by weight or keep the same amount and shorten the rise. SAF, Fleischmann’s RapidRise and bread-machine yeast all belong to this type.

What are the uses of Instant Yeast Converter?

There are 4 main uses of the Instant Yeast Converter: bread machines, no-knead bread, swapping from active dry yeast, and fast dinner rolls.
