How Jam Converter Works?
The Jam Converter works by dividing grams of jam by 6.4 g per US teaspoon. Jam is about 60% sugar, which makes it 30% denser than water.
Stir the jar
Stir set jam to loosen it. Lumpy jam leaves air gaps in the spoon.
Enter grams
Type the weight, such as 20 g for a slice of toast.
Level the spoon
Fill and level with a knife. Jam holds a dome, which adds weight.
Jam Converter Formula
The Jam Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of jam ÷ 6.4.
tsp = g ÷ 6.4 | 1 tbsp = 19.2 g | 1 US cup ≈ 307 g
- 20 g of jam ÷ 19.2 = 1.04 tbsp.
- 10 g of jam ÷ 6.4 = 1.56 tsp, about 1 ½ tsp.
- ¼ cup of jam = 12 × 6.4 = 76.8 g.

What is Jam Converter?
The Jam Converter is a calculator that converts grams of jam, jelly or preserves into teaspoons and tablespoons. Jam is fruit cooked with sugar and pectin until it sets.
Traditional jam holds about 60–65% sugar. Reduced-sugar jams hold less and weigh slightly less per spoon. Nutrition labels list a jam serving as 1 tbsp (about 20 g), and the converter shows how that compares to a home spoon.
What are the uses of Jam Converter?
There are 4 main uses of the Jam Converter: toast and scones, thumbprint cookies, cake fillings, and glazes.
Toast and scones
A scone takes 20 g of jam, about 1 tbsp.
Thumbprint cookies
24 cookies use 80 g of jam, about 4 tbsp.
Cake fillings
A Victoria sponge uses 100 g of jam, about 5 tbsp.
