How Matcha Converter Works?
The Matcha Converter works by dividing grams of matcha powder by 2.0 g per level US teaspoon. A traditional bowl of usucha (thin tea) uses 2 g, or 1 level teaspoon.
Sift the matcha
Sift matcha through a tea strainer. Static makes matcha clump into lumps that do not whisk out.
Enter grams
Type the weight, such as 2 g for usucha or 4 g for koicha (thick tea).
Whisk with water
Whisk 2 g of matcha with 70 mL of water at 75–80 °C (167–176 °F).
Matcha Converter Formula
The Matcha Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of matcha ÷ 2.0.
tsp = g ÷ 2.0 | usucha: 2 g ≈ 1 tsp | koicha: 4 g ≈ 2 tsp
- 2 g of matcha ÷ 2 = 1 tsp.
- 4 g of matcha ÷ 2 = 2 tsp.
- A chashaku (bamboo scoop) holds about 1 g, so 2 scoops = 1 tsp.

What is Matcha Converter?
The Matcha Converter is a calculator that converts grams of matcha green tea powder into teaspoons. Matcha is shade-grown Japanese green tea (tencha) stone-ground into a fine powder.
Matcha drinkers consume the whole leaf, so a 2 g serving delivers about 60–70 mg of caffeine. Ceremonial grades suit plain tea, and culinary grades suit lattes and baking. Both grades weigh about 2 g per level teaspoon.
What are the uses of Matcha Converter?
There are 4 main uses of the Matcha Converter: traditional tea, matcha lattes, baking, and smoothies.
Traditional tea
Usucha uses 2 g (1 tsp) and koicha uses 4 g (2 tsp).
Lattes
A 350 mL (12 fl oz) latte uses 3 g of matcha, about 1 ½ tsp.
