How Nutmeg Converter Works?

The Nutmeg Converter works by dividing grams of ground nutmeg by 2.2 g per level US teaspoon. Nutmeg is strong, so recipes use ⅛ to ½ tsp.

  1. Grate or use ground

Freshly grated nutmeg weighs a little less per spoon than pre-ground nutmeg. The 2.2 g value fits pre-ground.

  2. Enter grams

Type the weight, such as 0.5 g for a béchamel.

  3. Use the ⅛ tsp spoon

Measure small amounts with the ⅛ tsp or ¼ tsp spoon and level.

Nutmeg Converter Formula

The Nutmeg Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of ground nutmeg ÷ 2.2.

tsp = g ÷ 2.2 | ⅛ tsp = 0.28 g | 1 whole nutmeg ≈ 2–3 tsp ground

  • 0.5 g of nutmeg ÷ 2.2 = 0.23 tsp, about ¼ tsp.
  • 1 g of nutmeg ÷ 2.2 = 0.45 tsp, close to ½ tsp.
  • ¼ tsp of nutmeg = 0.55 g.

What is Nutmeg Converter?

The Nutmeg Converter is a calculator that converts grams of ground nutmeg into teaspoons. Nutmeg is the seed of the Myristica fragrans tree, grated or ground into a warm, sweet spice.

Nutmeg contains myristicin, which causes nausea and dizziness in doses of about 5 g or more (2 ¼ tsp). Kitchen recipes use 0.25–1 g, far below that level. Accurate small-spoon conversions keep nutmeg in its safe, flavourful range.

What are the uses of Nutmeg Converter?

There are 4 main uses of the Nutmeg Converter: béchamel and cheese sauces, eggnog and custards, pumpkin pie, and spinach dishes.

  1. Béchamel

500 mL of béchamel uses 0.3 g of nutmeg, about ⅛ tsp.
