How Pectin Converter Works?

The Pectin Converter works by dividing grams of powdered pectin by 3.3 g per level US teaspoon. A standard 49 g (1.75 oz) box of powdered pectin equals about 15 tsp, or 5 tbsp.

  1. Match the pectin type

Regular pectin needs high sugar. Low- or no-sugar pectin works with less sugar. Both weigh about the same per spoon.

  2. Enter grams

Type the weight from the jam recipe, such as 10 g for 1 kg of fruit.

  3. Mix with sugar first

Stir the pectin into a little sugar before adding it to fruit. Pectin clumps in liquid on its own.

Pectin Converter Formula

The Pectin Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of powdered pectin ÷ 3.3.

tsp = g ÷ 3.3 | 1 tbsp = 9.9 g | 49 g box ≈ 14.85 tsp

  • 10 g of pectin ÷ 3.3 = 3.03 tsp, about 1 tbsp.
  • 49 g box ÷ 3.3 = 14.85 tsp, close to 5 tbsp.
  • Half a box (24.5 g) ÷ 3.3 = 7.42 tsp, about 2 ½ tbsp.

What is Pectin Converter?

The Pectin Converter is a calculator that converts grams of powdered fruit pectin into teaspoons and tablespoons. Pectin is a natural fibre from apple pomace and citrus peel that gels fruit juice with sugar and acid.

High-methoxyl (regular) pectin gels with 55–65% sugar and a pH near 3. Low-methoxyl pectin gels with calcium and works in reduced-sugar jam. Splitting a box of pectin for small batches works by weight or by the spoon counts the converter gives.

What are the uses of Pectin Converter?

There are 4 main uses of the Pectin Converter: small-batch jam, freezer jam, jelly from juice, and pâte de fruit.

  1. Small-batch jam

    A 2-jar batch uses about a third of a box, 16 g, or 4.85 tsp.

  2. Freezer jam

No-cook freezer jam uses instant pectin measured by the tablespoon.

  3. Juice jelly

Grape and apple jellies set about 1.2 L (5 cups) of juice with one 49 g box of pectin.

  4. Pâte de fruit

Confectioners use 1–1.5% pectin by fruit purée weight.

Pectin Converter Measuring Tips

  • Weighs ~3.30g per level teaspoon.
  • Regular pectin requires both sugar and acid to gel; low-sugar pectin relies on calcium.
