How Water Converter Works?
The Water Converter works by dividing grams of water by 4.93 g per US teaspoon. Water has a density of 1 g/mL, so grams and millilitres share the same number.
Use room-temperature water
Water at 20 °C (68 °F) weighs 0.998 g/mL. Hot water near boiling weighs 4% less per spoon.
Enter grams or mL
Type the weight, which equals the volume in mL, such as 15 g = 15 mL.
Read spoons
Read the teaspoon and tablespoon result. 15 g of water fills 3.04 tsp, about 1 tbsp.
Water Converter Formula
The Water Converter formula is teaspoons = grams of water ÷ 4.93.
tsp = g ÷ 4.93 | 1 g = 1 mL | 1 tbsp = 14.79 g | 1 US cup = 236.59 g
- 10 g of water ÷ 4.93 = 2.03 tsp.
- 30 g of water = 30 mL = 2.03 tbsp (1 US fl oz).
- 1 metric tsp of water = 5 g.

What is Water Converter?
The Water Converter is a calculator that converts grams of water into teaspoons, tablespoons and millilitres. Water is the reference liquid for every volume measure: the gram was first defined as the mass of 1 cubic centimetre (1 mL) of water.
Water conversions double as a calibration check. Weighing a teaspoon of water shows the true volume of a measuring spoon, since every gram equals 1 mL. The same rule converts thin water-based liquids, such as stock and brewed tea, within 1–2%.
What are the uses of Water Converter?
There are 4 main uses of the Water Converter: bread hydration, spoon calibration, small-batch syrups, and medicine-style dosing checks.
Bread hydration
Adding 10 g of water to a stiff dough equals 2 tsp.
Spoon calibration
A teaspoon that holds 4.93 g of water is a true US teaspoon.
Small syrups
A 1:1 syrup with 20 g sugar uses 20 g of water, about 4 tsp.
Dosing checks
Weighing 5 mL of water on a scale checks a dosing spoon at 5 g.
Water Converter Measuring Tips
- Water has a physical density of exactly 1.00 g/mL at 4°C.
- 1 US teaspoon of water equals 4.93 grams; 1 metric teaspoon of water equals exactly 5.00 grams.
