Why Grams to Teaspoon Differs by Ingredient
A teaspoon is a unit of volume (~4.93 mL), whereas a gram is a unit of mass/weight. Therefore, 1 tsp of dense table salt weighs ~5.7g, whereas 1 tsp of airy powdered flour weighs only ~2.6g.

How Liquid Ingredient Converter Works?
The Liquid Ingredient Converter works by dividing a gram weight by the weight of 1 teaspoon of the selected liquid. The tool opens on water, where 1 US teaspoon weighs 4.93 g, and adjusts for oils, milks, syrups and extracts.
Pick the liquid
Select water, milk, cream, oil, melted butter, a syrup or an extract. Liquid weights per teaspoon range from 4.33 g (vanilla extract) to 7.08 g (honey).
Enter the amount
Type grams to get teaspoons, or teaspoons to get grams. The visualizer fills each spoon with a liquid texture.
Pour at eye level
Hold the spoon flat, pour to the rim, and check the surface at eye level for a full, level measure.
Liquid Ingredient Converter Formula
The Liquid Ingredient Converter formula is teaspoons = grams ÷ (liquid density in g/mL × 4.93 mL). Liquids have no air gaps, so density stays steady at a given temperature.
tsp = g ÷ (ρ × 4.92892) → mL = g ÷ ρ
- 15 g of water ÷ 4.93 g/tsp = 3.04 tsp, about 1 tbsp.
- 15 g of olive oil ÷ 4.54 g/tsp = 3.3 tsp, about 1 tbsp + ⅓ tsp.
- 15 g of honey ÷ 7.08 g/tsp = 2.12 tsp, about 2 ⅛ tsp.
Liquid Ingredient Converter Conversion Table
The Liquid Ingredient Converter conversion table ranks 11 kitchen liquids from lightest to heaviest and shows the teaspoons in 10 g and 50 g (1.76 oz).

Densities apply at room temperature, 20 °C (68 °F). Cold syrups pour slower but weigh the same per spoon.
What is Liquid Ingredient Converter?
The Liquid Ingredient Converter is a calculator that converts the weight of a kitchen liquid into teaspoons, and teaspoons back into grams. The tool covers water-thin liquids, oils, dairy, syrups and extracts.
Many cooks assume 1 g of any liquid equals 1 mL. That rule holds for water and sits within 3% for milk and vinegar, but oil runs 8% lighter and honey runs 44% heavier. The converter applies the right density for each liquid, so 20 g of honey becomes 2.82 tsp instead of the 4.06 tsp the water rule gives.
What are the uses of Liquid Ingredient Converter?
There are 5 main uses of the Liquid Ingredient Converter: salad dressings, baking with oil, sweetening drinks, extracts in desserts, and medicine-style dosing of flavourings.
Salad dressings
A vinaigrette written as 30 g oil and 10 g vinegar becomes 6 ⅝ tsp of oil and 2 tsp of vinegar.
Baking with oil
Muffin and cake recipes list oil in grams. The converter returns the spoon or tablespoon amount for small batches.
Sweetening drinks
Tea and coffee drinkers convert a 10 g honey target into 1.41 tsp, about 1 ⅜ tsp.
Extracts in desserts
Pastry recipes list 4 g of vanilla extract. The converter gives 0.92 tsp, a scant 1 tsp.
Flavouring doses
Bitters, syrups and flavour drops listed by weight convert into spoon fractions for home bars.
Liquid Ingredient Converter Measuring Tips
- Liquids form a meniscus; inspect spoon fills at eye level for exact calibration.
- Viscous liquids like syrups and honey cling to spoons; grease spoons lightly for easy release.
